Softmines Begins

It all began with 2 people, myself and my friend Ankur Gupta belonging to two different professions (construction and real estate respectively) united together by a passion for business.

For the last 2 years we have been trying hard to amalgamate our creative ideas into a fruitful venture but on most of the occasions our ideas flowed into a possible venture related to IT. This is probably because of the fact that both of us are fascinated by the latest technology; be it hardware or software and moreover, Apple products, in particular, have changed the way we look at technology.

Then came iPhone in mid-2008 and suddenly both of us were filled with lust to have one, well, Ankur got it but I refrained. For one year I watched Ankur play with his most beloved gadget but somehow I didn't bend to it. The attraction towards the Jesus phone was immense and finally I caved in when iPhone 3G arrived along with the possibility to play hundreds of games on it.

As businessmen, the passion to play games should start eroding at our age but it got ignited with the advent of iPhone depicting its power as a revolutionary device. Looking at these games and other apps, our own app ideas started evolving and at one point of time our creativity and subsequent discussions got out of control. I mean, we were discussing at least 2 app ideas on a daily basis and the stories about gold rush for iPhone developers didn't help either.

But there was a flaw in these meticulous plans of ours, both of us were non-programmers and had very little knowledge about other aspects of game development. Somehow, this didn't hamper our spirits and as the days passed by we contemplated how to go about it. Subsequently, we hired a couple of programmers but sadly they turned out be duds. Furthermore, with the explosion of apps on app store our faith in this business model dwindled and by the time iPhone 3GS arrived, we had lost hope and passion to venture further in it.

So how did we end up with Softmines? Wait for the story till our next blog.

You must be wondering who am I? I am the CEO at Softmines....
